Memories of Wallace Stegner
James M.Dourgarian, Bookman, was established in 1980. We are members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA). Like all ABAA members, we answer to a higher authority and follow a higher standard of ethics that guarantees a successful transaction for all our customers.
We buy and sell old books, vintage books, collectible books, rare books, first edition books, and related ephemera. We maintain several specialties. Among them are American fiction first editions from c.1900 to the present. Within that general field, we have heavy emphasis in John Steinbeck and Steinbeckiana. Thus, we buy and sell Steinbeck primary first editions in dust jackets, signed/limited editions, his appearances in anthologies, his periodical appearances, books and periodicals about Steinbeck, film and theatre memorabilia, bibliographies, and miscellaneous items.
We also specialize in these same categories for these authors -- Jack London, Wallace Stegner, and Stephen King. Other specialties include Western Americana, books on California and the West, Photography books, books on Japan, China, and the Orient, and Armed Services Editions. The latter are vintage paperbacks issued to American GIs from 1943 to 1947. They are comprised of mysteries, Westerns, science fiction and fantasy, mainstream fiction, historical novels, science, poetry, adventure stories, and more.
Within our field of modern first editions, we also sell related film memorabilia Thus, we sell film posters, lobby card sets, pressbooks, stills, scripts, etc. for films made from the works of authors we carry such as John Steinbeck, Jack London, Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, Raymond Chandler, Zane Grey, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Stephen King, Edward Abbey, Anne Rice, and many others.
|[Miscellaneous] Astronaut Edward H. White II, et al. Form AF 175. Washington, D. C., NASA, December 28, 1964, first edition. This is a unique archive of forms signed by nine astronauts, in 1964, five years before man walked on the moon, NASA started churning out press releases related to the space program, as part of this program NASA created AF 175, a form that documented biographies of astronauts, once the forms were completed a biography was created to be sent to that astronaut's respective hometown newspapers, radio stations, and TV stations, the forms noted the astronaut's name, rank, age, hometown address, their high school and college affiliation, membership in fraternal organizations, present position (astronaut), source of their commission, marital status, wife's name, name of her parents, their address, etc., each form was then signed by that astronaut, these forms are stapled to a cover letter on NASA letterhead presenting the forms to the commander of the 1100th Air Base Wing at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D. C., in addition to these nine signed forms are seven of the biographical news releases generated from these signed forms, two of the signatures are difficult to find because of the death of Edward H. White II and Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom who died in the Apollo 1 disaster January 27, 1967 at Cape Kennedy's launch complex in Florida when a fire ignited in their command module during preflight testing, it should also be noted that while Edwin E. "Buzz" Aldrin, Jr. has been a prolific signer, his signature also dates to 1964, a very early signature, the nine astronaut signed profiles are comprised of the following: Edward H. White II (first man to walk in space, Gemini 4, Apollo 1), Thomas P. Stafford (Gemini 3 and 9, Apollo 10), David R. Scott (Gemini 8, Apollo 9 and 15), James A. McDivitt (Gemini 4, Apollo 9), Donn F. Eisele (Apollo 7), Frank Borman (Gemini 7, Apollo 8), William A. Anders (Apollo 8), Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. (Gemini 12, Apollo 11), and Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom (Gemini 3, Apollo 1). Some notes on the cover letter, the stapled lot with folds, edge wear to the generated biographies. JD 33769|
